LEADERSHIP CALL FOR ACTION! CORONAVIRUS
Please ‘Like’ this thread if you agree we need AirBnB to better address host impact resulting from the Coronavirus.
I’m writing because after several attempts corporate doesn’t seem to be taking any responsibility to address the impact hosts are experiencing due to excessive cancellations resulting from the Coronavirus.
As a host for almost a decade I believe I can speak on behalf of myself and other hosts, my peers when I say—we put our faith, our confidence and an overwhelming commitment into this brand and therefore its leadership. We simply deserve some consideration and that comes with the leadership effectively addressing the many concerns we hosts have as a result of the Coronavirus and the decisions / actions AirBnB is taking that directly effect our lives and our livelihood.
I’ve invested a lot in AirBnB and I have hope that via this thread...
1. collectively we who have helped build and shape this brand can again prove to be assets to helping overcome the shared obstacles that we face today.
2. leadership will acknowledge these concerns and take the learnings into account to fairly address them with diligence and Godspeed.
As it relates to the Coronavirus, please share in the comments:
-specific concerns you have
-how this is affecting you
-suggestions
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and those affected by this.

I believe this should be split either 50/50 between guests/owners or if AIRBNB is deciding to refund the guests 100% they should be compensating the owners at least 50%. In some
cases people are canceling the day of! Leaving owners stranded and with no income. I already lost 1,500$ and I know there will be more ! (Thank god next months bookings are only thru VRBO and they are letting owners decide how to handle each reservation - my home, my reservation, my choice, not the corporates office ... Making a decision to only help one side out : 100% will greatly in pact my choice to use airbnb platform in the future. Dont use the word “community” when you do not care about the other half of that community.. and clearly the half that LETS you make your billions..

I think this would be a good compromise, agreed. This is so painful to take 100% of the hit

I'm really hoping that this is a short-term situation that will settle down in the next few weeks. Unfortunately we're at the mercy of our guests and AirBNB at this point. It appears that there Air just decided to allow for global cancelation from any guest too.

But even if it is short term (and what is that? through May? June? with Airbnb emptying our calendars), can Hosts really ever trust Airbnb after this? Does Airbnb even care if we trust them?

I'm out about 1500 bucks this month so far from cancellations. Thank God I have 6 months of mortgage in savings.

So, how do we band together to make an impact? Without hosts Airbnb wouldn’t exist. If we made a stand they would have to listen. Don’t forget the IPO that’s about to happen. The value would be Diminished if a good chunk of people from Airbnb made a stand and left the platform. United we stand and divided we fall.

Too late - anyone can now cancel for the next month.
The only action people can take is to leave Airbnb and go to another site

I would still like and hope AirBnB addresses the concerns / suggestions of hosts re: shared financial impact with 50% of reservation costs for cancellations.
However, in the interim it is good to see AirBnB is better servicing hosts with links and information updated in...

and has also been taking questions (see link in policy) in...

Unfortunately Airbnb is not looking after hosts whatsoever, I agree with the suggestion to “split either 50/50 between guests/owners or if AIRBNB is deciding to refund the guests 100% they should be compensating the owners at least 50%.”
We host can’t just take the hit, as of now guests can cancel freely for the next month and that put us hosts in a difficult situation.

Totally agree with the sentiments expressed here. We need a platform where hosts can band together and have our concerns heard, at the moment its David vs Golioth.
Together as hosts, we can come to some favourable outcome that spreads the burden of this situation fairly.
