Congratulations on getting your hosting career underway with your first booking.
The payment procedure is as follows........
When you receive a 'reservation confirmed' message from Airbnb, that indicates that the guest has booked your accommodation and paid Airbnb who will then hold that payment in their trust account until 24 hours after the guest arrives at your listing. Airbnb do not release guest payments to hosts until after the guest has arrived for their stay.
The reason they do this is to make sure the host follows through with the hosting, does not simply take the money and do a runner leaving the guest stranded!
If the guests payment method failed at the time of booking they will be given 24 hours to successfully complete payment, after which time the booking will lapse and you will receive notification that the reservation was not successful, and your calendar has reopened for booking for those dates.
Before the first guest arrives you will have set a payout method in place for Airbnb to send your payouts as they become due. The first amount you will receive from Airbnb will a few cents to establish that money is being sent to the correct account, and from that point on all payouts will take place automatically. You don't have to chase or apply for them, they just happen.
In over 900 Airbnb guest stays all my guest payments have arrived promptly in my nominated bank account and I have never had a major payout delay.
The "Send/Request money" tab is only used if a confirmed reservation is changed for some reason......a guest wants to increase or shorten the length of their stay, or you wish to request more money from a guest for something being added to the existing reservation, ie: and extra guest, a pet fee....something that was not allowed for in the guests initial payment to Airbnb.
I hope this explains how Airbnb's payout procedure works, and good luck with your hosting. I hope your career can be as successful as mine and many others here have been.
Cheers........Rob.
