Requesting money from a guest - the next steps

This evening I spoke with 5 different CS people on 2 continents and could not get a consistent answer to the question “do hosts receive notification from Airbnb after requesting money from guests if the guest does not reply to the request?”

Answers included:

* yes, but no idea when

* no, the host must follow up

* check your notification preferences (they then confirmed they were on but had no idea why I had not received notice

* no, select the button to escalate - yes, but do I receive notification after a period that it’s time to escalate- I’ll check - on hold for 14 minutes and call drops out.

I’m none the wiser. It would be nice to know if I have to initiate action after a prescribed period or if the Airbnb systems will prompt me with the next steps.

If someone has a definitive answer I’d appreciate your input.

My personal experience last week: I got no notification, even if CS has been involved.

@Hugh0 you will get notification if the guests responds, as long as you are already getting Airbnb notifications.  If a damage claim - You  must wait 72hrs. from filing a claim Request for money through Resolution Claim.... after  72hrs. move that resolution claim to Airbnb. The answer is YES - no notification is the clear answer that the guests has done nothing, ignored the request. If they say yes, YOU will be the first to know it.

Just because a guests says they will pay on the message thread means nothing - YOU must file a  resolution claim for money - some hosts seem to misunderstand this.

@Hugh0   I file a resolution center request for my pet fee.   I do not get ANY message about the status of the request -- did the guest receive the email?  Did they read the email?  Did they log in and go to the resolution center?  Did they read or see or click on the request for funds?  Did they ignore it?  Did they refuse it?  It is a mystery.

Nothing.  The only time I may get a message is if the guest pays the requested amount.  And then I will get a canned message from Air saying that the payment will come in X number of days.

Also...I have had several guests say that they cannot pay the request if they are viewing it on their phones.  They have to find a computer.

Thanks Lorna

seems like the system is designed to mislead hosts into thinking that the request for money is logged and will be actioned, but in reality Airbnb hopes the host will forget if there is no reply.
