On Oct 2nd, a whole-house renter hosted a party (a no-no) at my house and lots of people came and consumed lots of alcohol and trashed the place. Holes in the wall level of trashed (using one of my lamps). It wasn't a subtle or disputable claim, and the guest said 'i should have called the police.' I found the claims process cumbersome and unrealistic and their platform is awful--it was a full-time job--but I got all the information in by the end of October. I expected them to **bleep** me around, but I had no idea. Compared to the house-trashing, the experience with airbnb has been 10 times worse. And in this time... not one call from my case manager. Not one email for three weeks (the last email was a 'please give me your phone number and times I can call you' --because she doesn't have my phone number?--so I sent her my number and times she could call me and she never called). I tried to elevate three weeks ago. I call the poor regular support people every day and get 'I just communicated with her and she said she would call you' literally i have gotten that 4 times. But of course no call.
It is so cruel.
I would never, never, never recommend Airbnb to someone and am trying to figure out how to bail, after having invested a great deal in building my heretofore very successful gig biz. It is partly the financial consequence--I can't rent the house as it is as a whole house. It is partly the ulcer. It is partly the ugly. Someone built this system. It is so bad and so pervasive and so intractable--this can't be a bug. It has to be a feature. Evil.
