Reviews and requests for reimbursement for damages

If the guest has not reviewed me and I ask for reimbursement for damages, I then get a bad review. If they haven’t reviewed and I wait until just before the two week window, i have missed the opportunity. Why doesn’t Airbnb allow at least a 24 hr window after reviews to allow hosts to request reimbursement? Or what about being able to point out the damages in the private notes to the guest and have pictures taken at the date following the visit? It seems this would be evidence enough to follow up with a request for damages after the review date. Has anyone else had this experience?
