San Diego Transient Occupancy Taxes
We have just started running an AirBnb for the first time in San Diego. A few months ago when we were setting up our listing AirBnb did not collect and remit taxes on our behalf, but it says now they do. We have a TOT tax certificate but we aren't sure what it means and what exactly we have to do with it/the number since Airbnb collects and remits for us. Do we need to provide the number to Airbnb or do they just do so based on the address?

Airbnb collects and remits taxes in my area too. I don't have to provide any information to Airbnb, but I do have to report the amount that was collected and remitted to my city treasurer and state tax agency. If you contact your local government offices they should be able to point you in the right direction.
However, if you are operating without any required licenses from your city, county, and/or state, you may be unpleasantly surprised if they hit you with fines for operating without a license once you bring attention to your business.
