Hello!
I’m a new host. I do my own cleaning. I had my first group of 3 guests that left the place slightly disordered. Garbage laying around. Messes (ex: coffee ground spillage) not cleaned up. Foundation on the towel… they also were loudly laughing and watching their show hours past quiet time. Nothing unforgivable, but all together uncourteous.
I don’t think they deserve a scathing review… but would you express this lack of courtesy? Or just let it go? Or not leave a review at all?
Any recommendation is much appreciated!
@Lisa6518 Yes absolutely mention these things. You can start off with anything positive you can find to say, then “more cleanup than the norm was required, and quiet hour rules were not observed.” One need not be scathing, unless it’s really fitting.
Thank you for those words!
Based on the fact you don't charge a cleaning fee for your (beautifully cute) listing, @Lisa6518, absolutely mention it (and the noise). I like @Colleen253's words, and the do the job perfectly and aren't at all abrasive.
Thank you so much!
@Lisa6518 One way I've done this in the past, that isn't directly critical of the guests but gets the point across:
"X, Y, and Z were [insert positive qualities] and seemed to thoroughly enjoy their stay. In hindsight, I wish I had more thoroughly communicated the meaning of my Quiet Hours and expectations for tidiness."
@Lisa6518 Great advice for that less than wonderful experience with a guest. I also have a shared home listing and sometimes I think a guest's behavior is more tolerable in an entire home setting and say as much in the review. This is helpful for the future host who might also be a shared home host.
This is AirBNB's Terms of Service. Guests are to leave it in the same condition that it was when the guest arrived. Was there trash laying around when they arrived? Food messes?
If not, then they clearly didn't comply with AirBNB's ToS and these violations should be mentioned.
"Alice, Bertha and Caryn were overall good guests, but they weren't as courteous as I would have hoped. While I'm very happy they seemed to really enjoy themselves based on the loud laughter and joviality that carried on past my quiet hours, I was disappointed to find food debris and spills not cleaned up and trash cans not utilized after they left."
@Lisa6518 yes, one of a host's responsibilities is to leave honest reviews. I wouldn't think these guests would be great for a space with shared walls or amenities. And extra clean up is always good to know.
How about:
"Guests were pleasant and good communicators (if true.) Turnover took longer due to the need for additional clean up. Perhaps not the best fit for spaces with shared walls or quiet hours. Overall decent guests. We thank them for staying with us."
Then low scores in cleaning and house rules. Up to you whether or not you would like to h ost them again.
