A video has just gone to air featuring the CEO of Airbnb in his home telling his 'partners' what host assistance means to Airbnb.
*
The Australian federal government yesterday (3/31/2020) announced a $360 billion assistance package to Australia's 10 million wage and salary earners!
Now what this means, from May 1st The Australian government through the employers tax file will pay every Australian worker who has been stood down from employment an amount of $1,500 per fortnight for the next 6 months.
In separate assistance packages, businesses will receive grants and a freeze on loan and interest repayments for 6 months.
Landlords will receive financial assistance to offset tenancy rent defaults and no landlord will be allowed to evict a tenant for the non payment of outstanding rent. They will be compensated.
As well as this each state has also provided substantial loan and assistance packages.
What the Federal and state governments are doing, they want the employer/employee relationship to stay together so that when this pandemic comes to a close, everyone can go straight back to work, pick up where they left off in this last month. The government argues, they either support the population through welfare payments as they lose their employment.....or they bankroll the nation to keep business viable.
The government are going to pay the workers of the Australian nation to do nothing except spend money on living for the next 6 months!
Ok that is the Australian governments idea of compassion......Now, lets have a look at Airbnb's!
First of all, lets look at a few Airbnb statistics'!
Now firstly lets look at my first highlighted statistic!.....'6 guests check into an Airbnb listing every second' .... have you got that? That translates to 2.5 reservation check-ins per second.
Now, look at the next statistic below that......'The average rent received by hosts per guest arrival in 2018 was $185"!
So, the average service fee to Airbnb in 2018 was $83.25 US per second.....$299.700 US per hour....$7,192,800 US per day! That is just the service fees I am talking about based on a fee rate of 15% from the guest and 3% from the host!
We are not talking about chicken sh*t here...we are talking about $2.625 Billion per year which Airbnb gets to call their own.....ok!
Now lets look at the package that the CEO brags he is going to offer his 650,000 'partners'....those people who are the core of his business.
He is going to offer $250.000.000 to his 650,000 rank and file partners....really!
That comes out to $384.61 per host! Gee........ that is really going to get the monkey off our back, isn't it!!!!!
But it doesn't stop there, there is another $10,000,000 in company employee donations that will go to Superhosts....cool! Ten percent of Airbnb hosts are regarded as being Superhosts so, lets put a figure to that hey! $10,000,000 divided by the estimated 65,000 Superhosts....eerrrr.... lets have a look at that, $153.84 per Superhost!
Now, compare the Scott Morrison government offer to Australian workers with Brian Chesky's offer to his workers!
Seriously, where do you think compassion resides!
Cheers......Rob
Are you applying, @Robin4 ? I haven't looked at either this or our govt offer. Yet.
Would you believe Ade and I get the seniors $750 lump sum each in our bank accounts tomorrow morning! And I believe there will be another $1500 payment to us at the start of July. See even us seniors who don't need support don't slip though the cracks.
Sandra, I thought Scott Morrison was a complete turkey while Australia burned! He took off on a family holiday to Hawaii or somewhere, he fell out with a lot of the Australian public.
But he has got his mojo back!
When he gives a televised interview now on this Covid assistance, he talks from the heart, He doesn't read from a teleprompter, he looks everyone in the room in the eye and he speaks as a man on a mission....and that mission is to save Australia!
The world needs leaders like 'Scomo' and Jacinta Ardern at the moment.....I am really impressed!
Cheers......Rob
Is Scott Morrison doing anything for Airbnb hosts who have lost their only source of income, e.g. unemployment benefits?
Yes Pat, if you can prove you have lost your source of income due to the current pandemic you will be eligible for some form of assistance here.
Pat, to put this in perspective I didn't vote for this guy last election, I voted for our local independent because no matter which party got into power they would have to buy her support.
But as I said, this government is bankrolling Australia! It doesn't matter what you do for a living, if you find yourself unable to work, the government is going to support you for the next 6 months.
God only knows where the money will come from but, Aussies are already seeing money come into their bank accounts.
I just hope you guys over there get similar assistance!
Cheers.....Rob
That’s great! I think all there is in the US specifically for hosts is a low-interest business loan, unless there are employees involved (someone please correct me if you know differently!). The government is also sending most people a one-time stimulus payment. Many banks and other vendors are also offering delayed payments on mortgages and other debts. The deadline for filing and paying taxes has also been delayed 3 months. The total amount of the current stimulus package here is 2 trillion dollars, and they are talking about doing it 2 more times at 2 trillion dollars each. So we are not quite being left in the lurch.
I thought I saw a host say that they are getting unemployment benefits (i.e., real money) as well, but maybe there were other circumstances involved with that person. Still, I’m looking into it to make sure.
@Robin4 Canada has done something similar. I think $875/week, or thereabouts, to Canadians.
In S.Korea as well..... lots efforts to provide financial aid to families and small businesses.
Up to about $820 cash payouts to families in need (depending on income bracket and total # of dependent family members) Subsidies and/or low-interest loans to help business stay open and pay their employees
Also... as many people are already aware, the Korean government is covering the costs for covid -19 testing and treatment of confirmed cases and for the majority of costs related to being quarantined at state-designated facilities while people under quarantine at their own residences are all eligible to apply for some sort of financial aid.
