Why are guests still getting full refunds in Countries with no travel restrictions and no EC like New Zealand?

I was shocked to see that Airbnb had recently issued a full refund to a domestic guest after all travel restrictions have been lifted in New Zealand! The most recent update I recieved from Airbnb on May 2 said the guest had to 'substantiate that they are sick or unable to travel' so I contacted the guest to check. Guess what....my guest confirmed that he was not sick, was not unable to travel, did not need to provide any documents or evidence or did not even need to call Airbnb! He said he just simply clicked a button and his refund was issued!

Has this happened to anyone else yet?

@Helen427 Hi Helen, yes they said something about a change to their friends wedding. Definitely not an extenuating circumstanstance if you ask me?

Good morning @Andrew1928 , well unless one of the participants has Covid19 it definitely shouldn't be classified as EC.

One would reasonably expect it simply to be a postponement and an amendment & booking for a future date.

 I'd be inclined to msg any other guests who are asking for a change of any kind to their reservations to offer the opportunity of another date in future, using the existing funds that ABB have in there hands.

I think it's appalling people have been denied the basic right to attend church throughout this whole messed up situation that we have had created by a Pink haired Doc Marten wearing Goth and signed off by  a Presbyterian minister & Director of Health, the later who should know better....

 In all honesty @Andrew1928  if there's one huge lesson in this, it's for people to read and try get a grasp of the basics in laws PRIOR to signing off documents, never have we ever heard of a bunch of academics writing to Politicians to tell them not to Scaremonger the public, when ther guts of it is, it's about about private health matters of people living in a foreign country they don't have first hand real life experience of - I'm sure Amy Adams will be an asset to our Parliament to sort the snowball of rubbish out that none of us should ever have been exposed to.

@Helen427  It’s strange because everyone I know absolutely adores Sioux Wiles  including me She speaks with such common sense and I love all her pictorials in The Spinoff. 
 I don’t really mind what colour her hair Is or what clothes she wears . As far as I’m concerned we dodged a massive bullet and I’m eternally grateful to our awesome government.

I know how roughly how many nurses have died world wide as we get a report most days .
Most  of them did not have compromised immunities . 
Ten days with no cases . I’m pretty thankful right now. 🌹
