Wrong price give to guest -99% discount given to guest by Airbnb

A guest enquired recently about booking one of our properties on Airbnb for 2.5 months.

Despite guest claiming to have a budget of less than half the cost of the home, guest still booked the property a few minutes after enquiring and received a 99 percent discount on the price of the booking. Guest was charged less than 1 GBP (1£) per night, that is less than GBP100 (£100) for a 2.5 month stay.

Fortunately, the amount charged to the guest was spotted soon after booking and cancelled. Since then Airbnb has blocked the calendar, so unable to receive enquiries from other potential guests for 2.5 months.

Has anyone had a similar experience of Airbnb giving properties to guests for nearly free of cost? Are there loop holes in the booking platform that guests can bypass to get cheap stays on Airbnb and cause large potential losses to hosts?

Hello @Veronica-Of-Excel-Proper0

Yes, this is one of the penalties that a host get if they cancel a booking. The nights are blocked by Airbnb.

You can try to contact airbnb and explain that you are a new host and that there was an issue with the discount, they may re-open the calendar for you. But it is not a sure thing.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Although not new to Airbnb, I'm unhappy with having a calendar blocked for two and a half months because Airbnb made an error in the price offered to the guest and I cancelled. We couldn't have a guest staying for that length of time and receive less than £100 for the entire stay.
