guest verification fraud

I am fired up with Airbnb support.  I have been working with them for over 2 months.  I had a guest--we'll call him Tony--request a reservation for 1 night for he and his wife.    He had great reviews, a good profile, and a picture.  Tony showed up with another lady who said she was his cousin.  Tony left and this person--we'll call her Tiffany stayed all night.  She was not ready to check out the next day so requested an additional day stay with a long, sad story.  I extended her stay and told her the next day that I would not extend another day (she was a mess).  So Tony picked her up and she left.  I wrote a poor review because she took some items with her (towel, bathmat, etc.).  I also requested re-imbursement through Airbnb.

Two weeks later, I noticed in my past reservations that the profile picture was changed to Tiffany, the reviews were still Tony's and the verification was the same.  I contacted Airbnb support as I believe this is fraudulent.  To make a long story short, after 3 people and long messages, the Support said that they do not encourage this behavior, but cannot stop it.

I  believe they can stop it.  I require verification and in this case Tiffany's verification is actually Tony's.  I believe, of course, they can change their picture and even their profile, but they should NOT be able to change their name without going through another verification.  Without that, the Airbnb verification is a sham.  Airbnb Support originally said that it was impossible, so I sent them screenshots.  Tony's reservation, Tony's review, the VOILA, it became Tiffany.  The real problem is that Tony can now create another account and do the same thing.  Any user that has a poor review can just change it to another person and re-do theirs to "clean the slate".  Does anyone else think this is deceiving to the Airbnbn hosts as I do?

Recently, I received a request from--I'll call him Joseph.  When I clicked on "details" it changed to Tiffany.  I believe I am being targeted and Airbnb support is unwilling to look into the matter and just gives me the runaround.

@Vivian4

Such matters should be investigated more seriously by Airbnb and accounts should be closed if fraude is detected.

I agree!

@Vivian4  They do love to blah blah about how their platform is built on trust, though, don't they? It's so hypocritical.

I have lost confidence in them

This makes me SO ANGRY. I just reported a suspicious “Superhost” whose home I tried to book who began messaging me to send my photo, a clear picture of my ID, a extra “service fee but not through the app, but via my personal email.  But it wasn’t the host sending messages. it was a mysterious guy with no profile and no ratings and who was not listed on the account. He claimed to be a property manager for the woman.

I cancelled, reported it and Airbnb said they couldn’t do anything. The listing is still up. I think the host shown isn’t the real one.. I sent screenshots but CS said their hands were tied. No investigation.

Safety on this platform is pretty much gone..

This is quite concerning! I hope Airbnb gets more serious about this, the posts like this and on reddit make me so nervous to be a host here.
