Hello everyone,
Today is the first day of Week of Welcome (June 19—25, 2017), where hundreds of people around the world — from Amman to Kathmandu — are coming together to support refugees to make them feel more welcome in our communities as our new neighbors.
When you’re somewhere new, meeting locals and being invited to connect with the community is what creates a sense of belonging. All over the world, there are refugees who find themselves in transition and we all have amazing communities to invite them to.
There’s a great initiative we support and would like to invite you to be part of. The website has tools that make it easy for anyone to host one of following easy events:
- Tea Talks: Gather some friends together at a local cafe for an honest conversation about what you know, and most importantly, what you don’t know about refugee issues.
- Action Dinner: If you know more about the issue and want to figure out what you can do, host an Action Dinner with friends and brainstorm ways to help refugees feel more welcome.
You can learn more and sign up at weekofwelcome.org
It would be fantastic to hear if you are taking part in Week of Welcome or would like to get involved in this. Perhaps you have been part of something similar in the past? Please do share it would be lovely to hear from you.
Thanks,
Lizzie
