Paypal Currency conversion problem

I have booked a listing in GBP and paid via Paypal connected to a GBP debit card.  Upon booking, the price was automatically converted to EUR on invoice and back to GBP on the bank transaction details.  This led to an increase of 10% (£43 over a £450) booking! Can this be reserved and perhaps I can pay directly using the actual GBP debit card?

This seems to be a common issue. I was charged in US$ although I paid via PayPal with a Dutch credit card, which resulted in a €35 higher bill. Customer service tells me it's "because PayPal is an American company," which is complete BS since you have the same issue but with GBP and EUR. Something tells me this is a way AirBnB makes money...
