A Bali host’s journey — from one small villa to a full co-hosting life

Hi everyone!
I started hosting in Bali with one small villa a few years ago — and since then, I’ve learned so much about guest behavior, pricing, and photo optimization.

What started as a small hobby has now grown into helping other owners manage their villas here on the island. It’s been a great experience learning how different markets behave, and how Airbnb guests respond to little details like lighting or listing titles.

Would love to hear your story too — how did you start hosting, and what’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?

- Best Regards - Antonius

Hi @Antonius15

Your villas look super cozy and inviting! I actually added them to my wishlist for our family trip next year  they look perfect for a relaxing getaway.

I started hosting back in early 2019 with one property that wasn’t being used, and I’ve really enjoyed it ever since. Our HOA doesn’t allow self check-in, so we always get to meet our guests in person. Those little chats at check-in are honestly some of my favorite parts of hosting guests share where they’re from or why they’re visiting, and it just makes the experience more personal.

One thing I’ve learned over time is to be a bit more compassionate and flexible. My place is just across from the international airport, so sometimes during checkout I’ll casually ask, “What time’s your flight?” and they’ll say something like 8pm. If my place is free that day, I usually just offer them a late checkout at no extra charge. It’s such a small thing, but guests really appreciate it  those little gestures go a long way.

Hi @Patricia2526!
Thank you so much for your kind words

Totally agree — those small details in layout and description really make a big difference, especially when hosting international guests. Love that you started around the same time — feels great to see how many of us have grown from one small listing to managing more over time!

Always happy to exchange ideas with fellow hosts like you - I am still learning hope I can know much more here....

Great story, @Antonius15 .. love hearing how hosting can grow from a single place into a full co-hosting career. I started small too, and the biggest lesson I've learned is how much the details matter: clear photos, accurate expectations, and fast communication make all the difference. It's inspiring to see how you've turned your experience into helping other owners.. Bali is a unique market, and your insights are valuable. Looking forward to hearing more stories like yours.
