Hi fellow hosts!
Ever stop and think… who ARE we, really?
Because hosting attracts the most unexpected people:
-Engineers who now fix kettles and Wi-Fi routers with a single glare.
-Teachers who can explain check-in instructions better than YouTube tutorials.
-Lawyers who politely argue with guests over towel angles.
-Artists who spend 20 minutes fluffing a pillow because symmetry is life.
And here’s the million-dollar question:
If you could turn back time, would you pick hosting again… or just go back to your “normal” job?
Personally, some days I feel like I left a professional career to join a secret society of ex-something-else people, bonded by:
*Random Wi-Fi questions at 11 pm
*Mystery smells in the fridge
*Guests asking, “How does the shower work again?”
So spill it, fellow hosts — who were you before hosting took over your life?
And more importantly… are you secretly loving it more than your old job?
I just love seeing what a colorful, unexpected, brilliant mix of people makes up this community.
Sometimes it feels like we’re a secret society of ex-lawyers, ex-nurses, ex-artists, ex-IT specialists… united by towels, check-ins, and the eternal mystery of “Why did the guest unplug the Wi-Fi router?”
Hi @Oksana127 😊,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful thought here.
What did you do before hosting, and do you ever miss any part of it?
I’m tagging a few hosts to see what they were doing before they started hosting as well:@Tara0, @Marie8425, @Karen4131, @Lorina14, @Frances3408 and @Guy991.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Haha I love your thoughts. Actually for me, I joke all the time with Guests about how much easier some thing are now then when I started.
Electronic locks - I was always amazed how many adults lock a key in the room or lose your key. Drove me nuts. Haha I also have all entry doors set to auto lock after 5 minutes. People just forget to lock the door when leaving. lol
Everyone has some sort of streaming. I supply smart tvs and wi-fi but we used to have to do cable or satelite. Now I do nothing. lol
Even my washer and dryer are "smart" so my phone monitors any odd usage. It isn't a laundromat haha
Most Guests have the app on their phone easier to keep communication on the platform. I don't usually have issues I just like organized paper trails.
Since less silly work I actually love that I can do my Hosting but actually dedicate time to other business interests. I find the changes allow time to expand my enjoyments because I am not running around unlocking doors or fixing cable tv connections. Haha
People, have always been varied over my years in Hawaii and now Arizona, I have met many I am so amazed wirh. My big deal this year, I had an engineer who actually was the person designing a tool that a patten was pending. For me, the first time I actually met the person who designed a tool.
Hi @Marie8425 😊,
thank you for participating here!
I love hearing how much easier hosting has become with all the tech. 😍
With all these changes making hosting easier, do you find you enjoy interacting with guests more, or is it mostly about having the extra time for your other interests?
-----
I always leave interaction up to Guests. I love to talk and interested in everything. Haha I realize people don't like to be interragated though, haha.
My desk and office area is in the central open living area of my house. My tourist in Hawaii talked more than my business market in Arizona. The Guests all know me and join me when they choose or if tired after a long day at work feel no requirement to entertain a stranger Host. I am basically a stranger to them.
It is a comfortable enviroment, my patent designer I got educated on those fancy 3D printers. That is how they first build the idea for the patent approval. Really cool. They actually have technicians to manage and code the printer to do .your print of the 3D tool.
Hi @Marie8425 😊,
I totally get it! Technology has made hosting so much easier. Electronic locks are a lifesaver.
It’s nice to enjoy hosting without it taking over your life. And wow, meeting that engineer sounds incredible! It’s always amazing when guests surprise you with their stories and skills.

Yes, I love electronic locks Haha. I was fascinated about how the 3D printer worked. lol I have also learned about solar farms, concrete columns they pour in the ground to build big buildings, I am just naturally curious about everything lol, I always joke my brain is full of stupid information. I had a girl, recent Civil Engineer Graduate, that was cool because I didn't actually know what do you study for that degree? She nicely educated me.
Hi @Marie8425 😊,
That’s great, you’ve learned so many things from your guests.
Do you have solar panels at your listing, or are you planning to add them?
-----
Arizona has a lot of really big solar farms. So I Host a lot of the contractor workers they bring in, no no plans of acres of solar panels haha but they show me videos of them working and explain. lol I am just curious..
Hi @Marie8425 😊,
Thank you for your kind reply! I’m learning so many things with you, that’s amazing!
I understand about the solar panels. We’ll see what the future holds, and it’s a great start anyway just by learning.
