I’m Kath, host of Pahuway Wellness, a quiet mountain retreat in Negros Oriental, Philippines. “Pahuway” means rest — and that’s the heart of this place: fruit trees whispering in the wind, ant trails glinting in the sun, fireflies wandering in at dusk, and sometimes a monitor lizard sunning on a warm boulder.

I’m Shady Ibrahim, an Airbnb Host and Superhost since January 2019, and every quarter, this recognition reminds me why I started hosting — to create memorable experiences for guests and share the beauty of hospitality with others.

What brings me the most joy is the connection — meeting people from different cultures, hearing their stories, and knowing that I’ve helped them feel at home, even if just for a few days.

When it comes to creating a memorable stay, I believe it all starts with connection and care. Every guest has a story, and I try to make them feel seen and valued from the moment they book. I personalize the experience — whether it’s through a thoughtful welcome message, a local recommendation based on their interests, or small touches like fresh flowers or a handwritten note. 

I also focus on consistency: cleanliness, communication, and comfort — because those three are what make guests feel at home and inspire them to come back or recommend the stay to others.

Looking forward to reading other hosts’ tips and continuing to learn together!

I completely agree — fresh flowers instantly add warmth and life to the space! 

As for the handwritten note, I usually keep it short and heartfelt. Something like:

I hope you enjoy your stay and create wonderful memories here.
If there’s anything you need, I’m just a message away.
— Shady”

Thank you so much! I usually go for something simple yet vibrant — fresh roses, lilies, or baby’s breath are my favorites. 

If I know a guest is celebrating something special, I try to match the flowers to the occasion — for example, red or pink roses for anniversaries, or bright mixed blooms to create a cheerful atmosphere for holiday stays. 

I’ve noticed guests really appreciate the freshness and scent — it instantly makes the place feel welcoming and alive.

It's thrilling to be a super host as I strive to offer the very best experience to guests, every single time. Saint Lucia is a vacationer's paradise with captivating scenery, exciting activities, delicious food and friendly people but the personal touch makes such a difference. 

I love connecting with guests in person and ensuring little warm touches where possible. It grounds my hosting in the reality of making someone's stay positive.
