Hi there,

Thanks for accepting me onto this forum. I've been a host on Airbnb for around 18 months, and I am lucky enough to have earned Superhost status. I'm quite lucky in that I am up to 4.88, but heretofore, have always been on the border-line.

I always seem to get five stars in all but one category - cleanliness - where more often than not, I've only been able to secure a grade of four. In normal terms, that is a good score, but as I'm sure all of you know, it's not great on Airbnb. However, most of the overall scores on reviews I get stand at five.

I'm just wondering if I continue to get 4/5 for cleanliness, 5/5 for other things, and four or five star overall, will my Superhost status remain secure?

It's actually a very hard thing to be able to work out.

Yes, @Nick1866 , even if every reviewer gives you 4 for cleanliness, it is the overall category (scored separately by guests) that counts toward the superhost badge. 

In the real world, as you say, 4 is great. Guests are even told that when they are scoring. But if that's the one thing they are marking down, if it were me, I'd be looking for ways to make things cleaner. Looking at your photos, I'm wondering if just neatening things up would help with guest perceptions.

But never mind! You didn't ask that. You asked what counts, and overall is what counts. 🙂

@Nick1866  You have to have  at least a 4.8 for overall to maintain Superhost, so if you get an even mix of 4s and 5s for overall rating, you probably won't hit that target.

And I know you didn't ask, but you should be able to get the cleanliness rating up (guests will overlook a lot of stuff, but not general messiness and grunge) by more attention to cleaning. If you're not sure what you're missing, maybe get your mom, auntie, a friend, someone who's a clean freak to come by after you think you have adequately cleaned and point out what might need attention.

Even though the cleanliness rating isn't counted for superhost, if guests have the impression it's lacking in that dept, it could also influence the overall score.
