Host staying at rental w/o notification

If a host lists rental as entire property to yourself and does not mention the that host will also be staying at the same residence- can guest cancel with full refund for having the listing not being accurately described?

@Amanda1456  Yes, you should be entitled to a refund. I hope you haven't already stayed and now want a refund after the fact, because that would not be okay. The correct protocol is if you arrive to find a place not as advertised, you contact Airbnb right away and explain, then they will cancel it and hopefully assist in locating a comparable place for you.

Airbnb is very hard to contact right now- try them on their Twitter or Facebook account.

@Amanda1456  It depends on whether they host is staying within the rental unit, in which case, yes you should be able to get a refund, or whether the host lives on the same property, like a two family house or a guest house situation, in which case, probably not.

@Amanda1456  It is accurate to list as an "Entire Home" as long as the guest has a separate entrance and there are no shared areas. The host may live in the upstairs or downstairs of the house, or in another part of the house, but the guest space has to be totally self-contained to qualify as an "entire home". Most hosts with a situation like that will make that clear in the listing info, like " Hosts live in upstairs floor of the house, downstairs unit is completely self-contained".

If you post the link to the listing here, we could take a look and see if it is inaccurately described.

@Sarah977 I assume (and believe) it is ok to share outdoor spaces, pools etc. as long as this is made clear in the listing.

@Mike-And-Jane0,

Yes, you should clearing state which spaces are shared, including entrance hallways/stairs, gardens, patios/lanais/gardens/yards/balconies/decks/porches, outdoor walkways/paths/steps, parking spaces/carports/garages, fire pits, bar-b-que areas, pools, hot tubs, etc.
