Is Joe Gebbia still active for the Airbnb Cooperation?
After reading that Joe Gebbia is likely to join DOGE, it got me wondering how our organisation relates to the political reality in the States at this moment. Did they contribute to the election campaigns last year, and to whom? Do we have a DEI policy in place?
Airbnb tells me that this is the place I should receive answers......

I’ve been googling all morning to decide if we need to pull our listing off of Airbnb. The app, Goodsuniteus and the website open secrets.org report donations to be primarily to Democrat candidates and policies. I’m looking for some clarity around this. Maybe a boy caught Will force Airbnb to be more clear.

Stop with the cancel culture. Joe is working with DOGE to find and stop government waste and fraud. How is that a bad thing?

DOGE isn't doing that. They are implementing a cultural revolution, but not actually finding waste. They have no one with expertise in finding fraud. They are "finding" things that were already public record. They are eliminating programs that simply have "DEIA" in their descriptions, without understanding what the programs actually do. They are firing people with high performance reviews, then sending form letters claiming bad performance. Check the news, there are many cases of good people getting fired without any analysis of whether or not money will be saved. All the re-hiring and lawsuits will wind up costing more money then whatever they have "saved".
As far as cancel culture goes, I have the right to determine were my money goes. Should I be forced to do business with someone?

The problem is that you get your information from "the news".

Joe Gebbia is on the board but not as involved as he once was. Meanwhile, @Brian is close friends with Obama and hasn't caved to the pressure to join DOGE.
Meanwhile, I find it hilarious that Gebbia's start-up is called "Samara," because it only calls to mind "Appointment in Samarra." A man bumps into Death at a Baghdad market and thinks Death makes a threatening gesture. He flees to Samarra to avoid Death. But when asked why Death made a threatening gesture to the man in Baghdad, Death says, "I wasn't making a threatening gesture. I was merely surprised to see him in Baghdad, because I had an appointment with him tomorrow in Samarra."

So what you're saying is we should ALL boycott Airbnb because one way or another, democrats or republicans are supported by one of the founders.
Thank you for pointing out how ridiculous this whole idea of boycotting is.

Joe is an advisor but not involved in day-to-day activities at Airbnb.
But what are you getting at here? Joe's involvement with DOGE shows that he actually cares about the future of the US. If we don't make drastic cuts in our government, our economy is going to crash within 5-10 years.

Regardless of your political leanings there is great pressure to Boycott. There has been no response from Airbnb. I will not be hurt by their failure to address this and will add other rental sights for my listing…

I only started using AirBnb last year. Now I have to leave in protest of Joe Gebbia joining DOGE. They are doing tremendous damage at the agency where I contract with. The government employees are being treated badly and the costs savings are minimal at best. I'm deleting my account now. Good luck everyone

You don't "have" to leave, you want to, to make a political statement. It's extremely childish.

I don't consider it childish to vote with my pocketbook. Should I continue to support an organization who has a leader who is working to harm my interests? I get that your concerned about losing business as a host. My actions seem to threaten your livelihood. I sympathize, and I understand since mine is being threatened too. My beef is not with hosts like you, but with Airbnb. I hope you can find alternatives and continue to host. But this is a conflict forced on us, and if my cancellation of my Airbnb account combined with others will get Airbnb management's attention and force them to deal with Gebbia, then I will do that.

My livelihood is not threatened by you. And you interests aren't threatened by Joe's efforts in finding government waste. It's baffling to me that we aren't all behind this. This is our tax money that is being wasted, and what's been uncovered is only the start, I'm sure.
It would have been great if Congress would have been doing their job over the past decades but they haven't been, and this where we're at now.

My interests are definitely threatened. My job is in jeopardy and I've watched co-workers losing their jobs. What I have seen is not focused on waste, but instead on vindicative attacks. The Doge efforts are sloppy and focused on finding "gotchas" rather than a serious attempt at reducing waste. I agree waste should be reduced - by a serious effort by experts who do not have massive conflicts of interests in the process. That is not happening.
The end result likely will cost MORE money after they have to frantically re-hire necessary people and try to rebuild programs once they realize how necessary they actually where. If Doge had analyzed first and cut later I probably wouldn't complain. Instead, Musk just wants to preen on stage with his chainsaw, pretending to benefit you by slashing our government while taking massive profits.
If your livelihood isn't threatened, then why are you worried about people leaving Airbnb ?
