hosting a rental unit for 30 days only

hello 

i am helping a friend : he found a new home to rent and could not give 30 days notice so now he will have to pay double rent .

to avoid that i am telling him to airbnb the current place (is a 1 bedroom apartment) and move to his new home.

i know that he is not the owner of the apartment , so can he host it for 30 days as a private room ? (that way he is avoiding asking for permission to the owner?)

@Marina1635  In my opinion, the landlord would have your friend in court unless his lease allows subletting.
