Christmas Pricing and Bookings - Auckland

Any experienced hosts in the Auckland area who can advise me if guests really do book in December-January?  I have absolutely no bookings from mid December right through to mid January (only looking for bookings for one room - the other is occupied by a long-term guest).  I am quite sure I could get bookings at the 'recommended' price of $38/night - but for a double room with ensuite and private entrance, even a backpacker room would charge more than that!
I did a quick search (removed instant book) and it seems like all the hosts in a similar property are using smart pricing.

Any suggestions?
