Guest Internet Usage

Hosts in AKLD please be aware that Germans tend to skype and use insane amounts of Data, I just recieved my internet account for last month and its 100g over my 120g allocation...

there was 25g used just in 1 day, (my goodness are they doing live porn or something!?)

anyway inform your guests on checkin that the WiFi is an Amenity/Service provided free of charge and limit there use to around 1g - 2g per day, or further charges may apply after checkout from there deposit.

Make sure you can view your daily usage so you can stay on top of high (users) usage.

It may be easier to set up your router with another SSID and you can limit the speeds.

Most brands of internet routers have a smartphone app you can download which allows you to monitor your monthly usage everyday and see what devices are connected (and guests too).  You can monitor daily usage and control/manage connections.

Hi Rodger....I empathise...Quite frankly I do not have the time or energy to devote to checking my guests daily data useage! I am about to start up a 2nd Air BandB and looked into rates for broadband.  There is very little cost difference between say a limit of 100Gb or unlimited data.  I am with NOW who are light years ahead of most other ISP's in terms of service, and interesting it is cheaper to go Fibre Optic than ADSL.  I am going to unlimited data on Fibre Optic for $75 incl per month..it doesn't matter then of course how much data any guest uses..hope this helps.

Hi,

I did the same. Opt in for unlimited data with Slingshot and fee is very reasonal

Fast & reliable internet is vital for guests and stress free for hosts 🙂

Cheers

I would recommend getting an Unlimited streaming service if you're hosting. Guests from overseas would often not think to ask about this because they're so used to Unlimited data!

I speak from experience as I did the same to my parents when I moved back from Europe - didn't realise until they got the bill!
