I applied for my Short-term Rental License with the city of San Francisco in early November of last year (2017). It is now October 2018, almost a year has passed, and I've never heard a word! In January I did get that e-mail they sent to all applicants explaining that they were backlogged, but since then not another word. I paid the fee as well as the annual Property Tax bill. Funny how they are right on time when it's time to pay, but otherwise nothing. My Airbnb listing has said, "license pending" for almost a year now. I tried calling the Short Term Rental Office last week. No one answers, of course, and they tell you to leave a message and they'll "get back to you in 24 hours". HA! No one called back. Is this lengthly delay normal? Has anyone else been waiting this long?
I have been waiting 2 months now. When I applied they told me that it would be 6 weeks. When I called back after 2 months they told me that it would be another month. They told me that I can go ahead and list it in the mean time.
They say that I must cancel any reservations IF they deny my license. I have a grumpy neighbor. Does anyone know if they check with neighbors when issuing a license?
@Claudia29 Yes, they do contact immediate neighbors via letter informing them that you are opening an Airbnb. Hopefully it won't go to your grumpy neighbor. As I mentioned in my post, it's been 11 months since I applied, and neither I nor my neighbors have heard a word. I've decided that tomorrow I'm going to the Short Term Rental office for their weekly "drop-in hours" and ask what's up with my application. I don't really want to open a can of worms, but an 11 month wait seems excessive and I wonder if they didn't lose the application!
Hi Michael - any success dropping by the Planning Office during office hours? I completed the renewal process online in mid-Sept and no word.... B
I did drop by the Planning Office. I spoke with someone at the Short Term Rental Office desk. He looked up my application, found it, and said all was in order. He said the person in charge of my application was "out of the office until Oct. 16th". He wrote that person a note about my visit and my concern, and said it would "pop up on his screen as soon as he got back and turned on his computer". He also agreed that 11 months was way too long to process the application. Needless to say, it is now Oct. 29th and I've still heard nothing from them. They seem to be overwhelmed and understaffed.
I applied in November 2018 and heard nothing except my applicaiton is still pending. How do you pay the taxes without being registered? Were do you report your earnings and how much tax did you have to pay?
