16% occupancy tax in Mexico no longer being charged to guest automatically

Hello;

Since Octoberish Airbnb has been charging and remitting 16% occupancy tax on my rentals in Mexico. Suddenly, my last 2 reservations they did not charge this tax to the guest. I called on 1/31 and was told that this issue would be elevated. No one ever contacted me. Phoned again today 2/17 and was told the same thing.

Curious if this has happened to anyone else.. occupancy tax was being added and now it is not.

Thank you.

I haven't had that problem, but I reported tax inconsistencies to Airbnb over 2 months ago, chase them regularly, and still have not had even an update.  I just keep getting "sorry thank you for your payience" kind of thing.

By the way, if it's 16%, it is actuallyIVA (VAT).

I have the same issue.

Are they doing it or not ? I dont see it on the details to what the guest paid  as I see in VRBO. A case was open with this question and has been showing in process for 4 days  now

Hi,

I dont know if you got your problem fixed.

I have / had the same problem (just began a discussion here, but is not official up to now , see my post  xxx Global preferences (language, currency) occasionally change without knowing why! xxx when official)

Same: Support doesnt help.

But meanwhile I think I know what happened.

AirBnB still collects 16% (thats the IVA or VAT) plus 3% occupancy tax from the guests.

But as far as I could figure out,  it only works, when your account (global preferences) is set to language = Espaniol (Mexico) and currency = Mexican Peso. And these global preferences change occasionally. Dont know why.

Go into your account info and set global preferences to Mexico (also session preferences ..., everything, i dont know what exactly). Wait for some minutes and make a test inquiry and check if you would have to pay 3% or 16% on  xxx Impuestos y tarifas sobre el alojamiento xxx

For me this workaround works, but I have to check every day, at least everytime after log in into AirBnB (like now .. I bet I have to change global preferences again to Mexico because I wanted to tell my experiences  ...)
