Airbnb asks for Belgian VAT number for rental properties in Portugal

We own 2 houses in the Algarve / Portugal which we offer as rental properties on Airbnb. 

We have now been asked by Airbnb to provide a Belgian VAT number.

If we do not provide this number we might no longer be able to host or to get paid.

We have Belgian nationality and live in Belgium but we do not have any business in Belgium and therefore have no Belgian VAT number. 

Anyone familiar with this problem / knows how to solve it?

@Chantal1051 Given how complex Belgian taxes on overseas properties are do you definitely not pay VAT in Belgium?
