Hi Hello! My name is Kansai!
I am currently interested in becoming a host in Australia, which states are the least regulated and easiest to start in?
I was initially going to start in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, but QLD seems to require a develop application, which seems very difficult. (It also seems to cost between $7,000 and $9,000!)
I would like to know which states have relatively lax regulation.
Do your market research in locations you are interested in, by looking on local government website to see where these are in place. (or whoever controls STR regulations in your country) @Kansai2
@Kansai2 We do not have 'lax regulation' . I dont think you have any idea . Maybe firm up what you think you are wanting to do before . A 'development application ' applies to building . Nothing to do with hosting an Airbnb . ?.. H
Thank you for your reply! @Helen744
Ok I see but according to this webpage host need a development application
https://holihome.com.au/council-rules-regulations-laws-airbnb-on-gold-coast/
I even called the city council to check and they said it was necessary.
@Kansai2 Only if you are building Kansai not if you have an already existing Airbnb , maybe they have a fee on the Gold coast specifically through council for Airbnbs but I am not sure. Most places dont but the Gold Coast is condo world so maybe. ..H
@Kansai2 the article above is very unclear and is not from the council but a group called "holihome". . these are not the facts and are not clear. I would look into it further if I were you... H
@ Kansai2 the four rulesw incorporating the fire regulations would be right and boddy corporates would have to be agreeable to hosting but the rest applies to building. Maybe someone living on the Gold Coast will chime in.. H
Hi @Kansai2! How are you getting along with learning about the regulations in Australia? I hope the suggestions from both our dear Hosts and long-standing members of our Community Helen3 and Helen744 may have helped you in digging for more information about the regulations.
I also wanted to share a link to this Airbnb Resource article that helps with a general idea of regulations and Responsible hosting in Australia . Keep us posted on how you're progressing with your idea of becoming a Host! All the best 🌻.
