Best WIFI doorlock?

Hey everyone.  Is the August WIFI lock w/the keypad the best lock to get?  I like how it can sync w/AirBnB to generate a code for each guest (one thing less I have to do) but between the lock, the keypad, and hub, it's $300!  So is there a more cost-effective solution that you like?

Hello Dave, any luck with the August smart lock. I have installed a Yale smart lock and its been a bit of a mess. Still trying to get it to run smoothly. It will run fine for a while and make life easier, then it stops communicating with the hub and I can't make new codes. Then I have to go and reset the system and start over. It's kinda a pain in the butt, but for now it's still better than having to go over every time to manual change a code for a new guest. Let me know your thoughts. Im not too concerned with the cost if it works every time.

@Dave1052 @Daniel8276  A little while ago, @Sean95 did a ton of research on this and a lot of other hosts weighed in here:  https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/Still-looking-for-a-recommendation-after-scouring-every-...

I did not go with a wifi lock, on the advice that wifi drains battery power too quickly and that wifi at the front door location has the potential to be iffy.  I went with a Schlage Zigbee/Z-Wave style lock that works with my property management system to generate and send unique codes to the quests.  We're also using a third party company to handle the lock integration and send additional email instructions (as well as manage thermostats and lock the range of temperatures).

We installed an August wifi (fourth gen) smartlock and keypad about a month ago, and have been super happy with it to date.  Guests have commented on how smooth their check-in went.

We elected to go with the keypad out of the gate, as one of our first guests advised that they weren't very techy, and would prefer a keypad-style entry.

When linked to our ABB account, it auto-generates codes, and sends them to the guests.  I can see the guest code, along with the temporary window that it is valid for from the app on my phone.  I can edit the arrival/departure times on the lock (it mirrors the check in/out times of our listing, and we like to give folks a 30 minute grace window on their code), and the codes get auto-deleted after check-out.

Thus far, we have only had one guest try and integrate the actual August app, and he could not, although we guessed that it was because his booking happened in advance of us linking the August app to our ABB account.

I had read the reviews from a couple years back when the integration was first launched and was a little nervous with our first guests, but they all have been able to access the property easily.

Highly recommended for sure

I use a Weiser smartlock.   Same price point.   Takes literally one second to program, delete, lock, unlock, etc.    I manually change for each guest before they check-in.   The locks without wifi are much cheaper, and thats what I use in my home.    The convenience of wi/fi is worth the added expense IMO, and all the good wi/fi locks play at the same price point.

@Dave1052 be aware that any type of keypad/door lock will make some guests really uncomfortable. We have a pretty low tech, easy to use, punch in the code manual door lock and had a recent guest call us 3 times that they were locked out over a short stay (worked fine when we walked them through and apparently they could use it on their own a few times but just were totally flustered). Best to have a hard copy old fashioned key on site as a back up for those who are happiest with that.
