Chicago License Application: Commissioner's Adjustment Denial HELP

Hi - I'm wanting to rent out my garden unit as I'm unable to rent it long term (personal reasons, its fully to code). It is the unit below my permanent resident (I own the building) and I followed the application process, included the required Commissioner's Adjustment as it's not in my permanent residence. Unfortunately this has been rejected.

"The Commissioner has denied your application because there was no evidence that the approval of your application would eliminate an extraordinary burden on the applicant in light of unique or unusual circumstances."

Without getting into personal financial details in this public forum, does anyone have any "winning strategies" that they have used to get an adjustment on appeal? Paying bills is not sufficient, it would seem...

Hi @Bruce770 😊

Thank you so much for sharing this here!

I'm sorry about this issue. Did you try connecting with local hosts through our 👉 Local Host Clubs?

I'm also tagging a few hosts from Chicago to see what advice they can offer you: @Nick3248@Betsy273@Lydia615@Brian2760@Bettye6@Josephine-Akosua0@Mikael135 and @Kaylee-Loan0.

Thank you in advance, everyone!

Warm regards 🌻

I tried connecting to a "local" host on airbnb and they connected me to someone in Florida - I'm in Illinois...

The Local Host Club on Facebook is only for active hosts, they denied my request to join 😞

If you can let out the property as a short term rental why can't you let it as a long term rental if you aren't allowed to do STRs @Bruce770

@Helen3 We need to keep it "vacant" for when friends and family visit, including my 80yo mother!

Ah thanks you didn't mention that in your original post @Bruce770
