Data protection fees in the UK

I have set up my own business to use for hosting  - do I need to pay the data protection fee in the UK?   I have just received a letter from the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) asking for this fee .   I'm unclear if i have to pay the annual fee for the customer data that is stored on Airbnb and I have access to.  Any advice welcomed.  Thanks. Claire

Hi Claire,

The answer is no, as it is kept via airbnb, except if you are keeping their information, alternatively if they are held on your phone or PC, you will need to delete it.( This only applies if you are a live-in host)

But if you are mainly using it as a hosting business, especially if you have a copy of their ID, at check-in. it is a legal requirement in UK for any one holding client's information to be registered with the (ICO), and even then, you are only allowed to keep it for 3 years, maximum of  6years.

Hope it helps

Thank you for asking this question here!

Have you found out anything in the meantime?

I’m tagging a few hosts from the UK to see what advice they can share with you: @Helen3@Chippy3@Malek40@Jane4673@Abi010@Beverley120@Chamitha0@Tim3904@Mike-And-Jane0 and @Tara0.

Thank you in advance, everyone!

Not if it's only on Airbnb but yes if you are storing guest information elsewhere ie on your laptop @Claire2515
