I had my first guest today so wasn't sure what to expect. 2 hours before check in we got notification that someone entered the house. I send out access codes 48 hours before check in but I think I should probably not provide this code until 1 hour prior.
Not a problem if we don't have back to back bookings but we don't really need our guest to bump into our cleaners.
How do you guys deal with this?
@Danny627.Welcome to hosting 🙂
My Schlage Encode smartlock not only issues codes but access times down to the minute. If they turn up early they wont get early access unless they contact me and I approve a change. The code message they receive clearly sets out the access times and dates as well.
I usually issue codes first thing in the morning of a stay, sometimes the night before if early entry is approved. This information is also in the Airbnb arrival guest info.
You will find a lot of helpful advice from other hosts on Community Centre so spend some time reading and searching topics.
Good luck.
Thanks everyone, I have a Zwave Schlage that I manage through the home automation system (Homeseer). I manually create the guest access code there.
Using scheduled messaging, I was sending the guest their access info 48 hours prior to the day but I changed it this morning. The actual info of their access code (last 4 digit of the phone number) will not be sent to them until 1 hour before check in time.
Also good suggestions on letting the guests know that there are back to back booking.
@Danny627 You can simply not provide the access code until the cleaners have finished. Make that very clear to the arriving guests if you have a same day turnover.
@Danny627 As a guest I would not like to travel to your property without knowing the check in code in case my phone didn't connect properly in a different country. I would update your lock to one that allows you to time the validity of access codes. I would also make the code the last 4 digits of their phone number)
