Double council tax

Hi , just wondering if anyone else in uk has had any experience  , had a letter from valuation dept about our Anex , saying liable for seperate council tax , 1700 a year . Then yesterday got letter from a very speedy council saying I owe seperate council tax but they are back dating it 3 years so I owe them 6000 pounds . Anex is not self contained, only has a bed and shower and toilet . Any knowledge would be appreciated.

That's rather confusing - you say in your post the annex isn't self contained - yet your listing emphasises it is self contained with its own lounge , kitchen area , bathroom and bedroom - and its own front door - which is it ? @Mandy-Jayne0 

if it's self contained you should be paying council tax for it or have applied for business rates .

Hi , not separate from bungalow , uses side door ,  no kitchen , ie sink oven any cooking facilities.

That's interesting your listing says the opposite  @Mandy-Jayne0  -that it is a self-contained  annexe .

Perhaps this is what your Council has picked up on and why they are looking to charge you.

Yes sounds like it ringing valuation office this morning , they are saying habitable home , ok if you are going to eat takeaway all week and wash up in shower .?
