Hi - I am a brand new Airbnb host in Mazatlan, Mexico!
I moved to Mazatlan from Ontario, Canada in September 2022.
I'm not sure how to deal with taxes in Mazatlan and whether I need to hire an accountant to help me monthly. I have only 4 suites so I don't know if hiring an accountant is needed or necessary.
Can anyone help walk me through the process for taxes and filings in Mazatlan that arise from my Airbnb listing?
Thank you so much in advance!

Hello @Conor143 and Welcome to our Community Center, I am wishing you the best in your journey as a host in Mexico.
It's great to see that @Mario2916 came up with some useful suggestions. I also thought it could be a good idea to recommend posting in our Spanish Community Center, where we have very proactive Mexican hosts who could provide you with local assistance. Just in case you want to explore this option, I'm leaving the link to the Spanish Community Center 👉here. Hi @Con2
you will need to get an RFC from the SAT office so you get taxed a lower amount(an RFC is like goverment number that corresponds to your tax profile). If you dont have an RFC airbnb will take 20% from your bookings to compensate for the income tax. I would definitely suggest finding an accountant that can help you with this process, and will be very helpful if you have a temp or permanent visa to be able to set your RFC. I hear there are other ways to do it even if you don't have your visa figured out.
hope this helped!
Thank you @Mario2916 ! I am now a permanent resident. Do you use an accountant to prepare the facturas? Are you available for a whats app chat by any chance? I'm lost and feeling overwhelmed starting up my business so any help is very much appreciated!
Hi Conor, Im just learning myself but i would definitely get you an accountant that can set you up with an RFC (which you need to make facturas). its easier than you think and it helps that you have a permanent visa
Thank you!
