Hello, I'm trying to figure out which tax type to choose from the drop down menu when I go to add a tax. This is for the environmental tax in Greece, called the Climate Resilience Fee, which has increased to €8 per night this year (2025). I have asked AirBnB customer support which referred me to a tax specialist. I've asked my accountant in Greece but they don't know either so they referred me to AirBnB. I've looked online and no one seems to be sure - is it a Tourist Tax? A Lodging Tax? Something else? I hope one of you can help. Thank you!
Hi @Kiki146,
Did you manage to find an answer regarding this tax, since your post here?
In case you haven't, perhaps some of our other hosts in Greece could help - @Emmanuel9 @Yiannis45 @Rafal36 @Georgia314 @Charalampos12 @Giannis87 do you know more about the Climate Resilience Fee?
Thanks everyone 🙂
Emilie

@Kiki146 According to what is posted online, this tax is an "accommodation" tax. I hope that this helps.
Thank you!
Hello @Kiki146,
You can add them in one of them, the main thing is to enter fee for climate change to the online tax system.
PS. Also one recommendation to Airbnb, they have not exclude any type of houses from this tax. You should advice generally governments in countries, for the natural build houses at least, like mine that is from stone and soil and common houses should not have this tax. Just to inform you and let you know how the situation is.
Also they should recommend some criteria's that you can avoid this tax if you comply with the green standards of a Europe that make war and need fees for climate change from Greece that is 2% CO2 of Europe, 0,2% of Global CO2. Otherwise tell them to say it tax and not climate tax. (European tricks :D)
Also if its possible guests to pay them directly to government through Airbnb because now you need to collect the green tax and pay it back to government and its a waste of time. Instead of going forward we are going backwards. Basically give the option if you want as a host to avoid all this waste of time, all the fixed taxes should have the option to pay them directly and send them through platform from hosts.
This law is the reason that i am thinking to close my Airbnb after 12 years, its a parody. In 50 euro per night in a small village, plus 8E is 16% more.
Or for houses over 150 euro per night they should make it 8 euro and for lower prices make it less with levels.
Glad to hear your opinion in this matter.
Kiki if you need something else feel free to ask, have a nice time all of you!
Kind regards
Thank you Emmanuel! I agree, it makes things needlessly complicated. I just wish AirBnB could add it as a specific category of fee. May I ask, which category did you choose? Or do you know what other hosts in Greece have chose to do? Thanks again for your help!
Hey @Kiki146 ,
I am just about to select "Lodging Tax" but I see that further info are requested (Business tax ID, Accommodations tax registration number). As I am an individual (not a business owner), I don't know what I should put in there.
Did you fill these in?
Thanks in advance!
Hi @Alexandros132 , if I remember correctly I had to put in the property tax registration number, AMA in Greek, which is the tax number you get when you register your property for short-term rentals. I hope this helps!
