We're new airbnb hosts and would like to know if other hosts in the UK have separate public liability insurance for their airbnb properties? I ask because Host Liability Insurance looks like it should cover against most claims (up to $1M) and it's underwritten by Zurich so a bona-fide insurance policy. But, I'm pretty risk-averse so would rather be safe than sorry! Also, has anyone ever had to claim for a guest injuring themselves on their property and how was the process handled? Thanks all.
@Andrew3679 Given that the UK is not as litigious as some countries I think you should be OK. However you will be exposed if you build up a number of private guests. Also I suspect most damage/ property risk policies come with liability as standard.
@Mike-And-Jane0 OK, so Host Liability Insurance provided by Airbnb is enough? It certainly sounds like it should be, but there seem to be lots of comments on various forums that it isn't so I'm a bit confused.
@Andrew3679 The great advantage it has over Aircover for damage is that it is a regulated insurance product so if it didn't pay out then you can go to the Ombudsman.
@Andrew3679 Is Aircover (including Host Liability Insurance) not a regulated insurance product? The details Airbnb provide states that it is and it's underwritten by Zurich etc?
Thank you so much for posting in our community.
Have you had a chance to read the message from our experienced host, Mike?
We would love to hear your thoughts.
