Why are some Host allowed to deceptively price their units with the low ball price during peak season? Is this not dishonesty? What do you think about this type of promotion being unfair to Host that are not deceptively advertising? Is honesty not the basis of Airbnb's standards? Does Airbnb promote deceptive pricing? Jean
@Maria-and-Jean0 what you have chosen to do is make less money in the peak season by charging too little and you will have fewer bookings in the off-season because you are charging too much. You are losing money year-round and you are calling the rest of us immoral cheaters and dishonest and Liars because we do not subscribe to your misguided business model. We are only talking about the limited situation where a guest comes on to the site and enters no potential dates for their trip. If they enter the dates they wish to travel they will see the exact pricing that they would be expected to pay. But if they do not enter in any dates it is reasonable for the host and for Airbnb to assume that they are in fact not looking for a specific set of dates but rather looking for the best price and are willing to set their schedule around the best price available. I think this is very common and not unreasonable to assume this. No potential guests honestly expects to pay the same price for a last-minute booking during the peak season as they would during a midweek in the offseason 3 months from now. This is not the accepted norm in the marketplace and it is not something the consumer would feel is dishonest. My normal price is between $60 and $62 per night. I have a few mid week nights throughout the year that I market for $49. These get booked up quickly and I add more. I have a lot of local guests just looking for a quick getaway and are not set on their dates and just looking for the best price for a night out of the house. They appreciate these discounts and take advantage of them. I do not think I am being deceptive to the General Public by doing this
I understand up selling. I understand the art of deception. I brcame a master. Then one day i realized that such things as lying, deceiving and manipulating became the norm. Then one day I took the high road and never looked backed. This may sound arrogant to you but if you have not then you cannot understand.
You make of it as it applies to you. Bur Ned... I really don't understand your continous concern and lengthy... contacts... given that i am as you clearly stated a Nutbar. Perhaps i hit the same nerve in you that i hit in me?
My apology if i upset you. Some pro, some con and one nut job who keeps harassing me. Seven pages about 84 so far.
I am going to ask you to stop contacting me on this post Ned. I hope you will honor my request immedately so that i dont hv to report you for harrassment like i hv for the others who just want to harass me because i hit a nerve in them.
It has been real. It has been fun. But it hasn't been real fun.

@Lisa723 [Content hidden]. I am sure @Ana1136 and myself are the ones she reported. I still think that I am the one that should report him/her I have been called a drunk, daft, idiot, and liar more times than I kept track of by him/her for pointing out simple facts. I gave phyiscal proof with photo's that do not lie about what I said and he/she went off. ****
I have been reporting people posting here who are harrassing me to Airbnb. I hope that you will discontinue harrassing me and that this will be our last contact.
Report me all you want. You came out on the attack calling me deceptive and accused me of cheating and lying to the general public. You went so far as to condem my soul. Now you say you don't understand why I feel the need to respond??? Why don't YOU stop responding to MY posts? But you won't do that will you...no not likely.

You keep saying over and over that you understand up selling. But in the immortal words of Inigo Montoya..." you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means". You don't seem to have any idea of what up selling is. Because we're not talking about upselling, our discussion has nothing to do with up selling. Upselling is when the car dealership tries to get you to buy undercoating or an extended warranty after you have bought the car. Discounting prices in the off-season is not upselling....just an fyi.
Hello everyone,
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Lizzie and I am the Community Manager here in the Community Center.
I'm just want to step into this discussion here. Taking a look at this topic initially, I do feel we could have had a really good conversation on this subject, as it is an interesting one and there are some comments which show this here. Having said this, it is a shame there are quite a lot of accusations and personal remarks which are neither constructive or enjoyable for anyone reading them.
It is clear from this discussion that there are a range of thoughts on this topic, which I personally think is a good thing – this way we can learn things from each other. It's good to be passionate about your view, but in giving your view here in the Community Center, we believe in being respectful of others.
It's great to feel strongly about what you believe in, I personally think the best way to encourage others along your line of thinking others is to convince them through tolorence and informed arguments – focussing on a constructive outlook. If this doesn't work and we aren't going to agree on everything, at least we have all had a great discussion at the end of it, one where we have hopefully learnt something along the way and enjoyed being part of.
We all have the power to step back and chose where to discussions go, let's see the positive way we can influence how something is. Regarding this specific conversation, we could discuss how we can help to build a better feature, discuss the reasons we currently have our pricing as it is (this was touched upon here) and give suggestions on how pricing could be more transparent to both host and guest and much much more.
I do feel it is best for this thread for all our community here, to close this to new replies and I will be reviewing the comments to remove any that go against our CC Guidelines.
Thanks,
Lizzie
