IS LOW BALL PRICING THE SAME AS BAIT AND SWITCH

Why are some Host allowed to deceptively price their units with the low ball price during peak season?  Is this not dishonesty?  What do you think about this type of promotion being unfair to Host that are not deceptively advertising?  Is honesty not the basis of Airbnb's standards?   Does Airbnb promote deceptive pricing?  Jean

Jean of @Maria-and-Jean0 , How can you not reconcider your opinion after so many experienced hosts point to valid arguments about the subject? Tell me one holiday resort, hotel, guest house that doesen't have different prices for off and on season? Except yours. I respect your decision of running your buisiness just as you should respect the decisions of the other hosts that want to have different prices. They are not beeing deceptive in any way, it's not like they give you one price on Airbnb and charge you extra upon arrival. Everyone sees the price before booking and decide if it fits their budget. Are you saying that all of us should have a flat rate just because of the way Airbnb shows the prices?

Well, just because everyone is doing must be its the thing to do.   Lee Iococca said "In business you either lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.  You obviously are a follower.  Advertising a price in season that is only available off season is deceptive.  It started on the car lot and as bean counters go it made its way into the travel and hospitality business in America.  I respect my Guest and I do not feel the need to trick them to get them to look at me.  I understand the business practise.  But out of respect for others.. they dont use the lowest price in their books to hook you and they do adjust their lowball rate seasonally.

No.  You dont get it.  I do not expect you to do anything.  Time and again you defend the practise.  Why would I expect you to get it now.

I am just saying that you can market your place without deception.  Pretty simple concept you would think.  I say $139 every day and you pay $139 every day.  You say $49 dollars and who knows what it will really be..  Do you get it yet.  I am in my first year and not only have I been booked all summer I have had a higher caliber of client.

And as to what so many (experienced hosts point out.. that doesnt make them any more right than it does you.

Read it and weep.

@Maria-and-Jean0  I see you put your listings back without the  changes like the extra guest charge, etc. you said were listed that I did not see the first time I looked either. I checked your rules and all desriptions, none of what you say is there is there now or before. Also your one place is $129 and $179, but your headline says $139. You are one of the hosts that guests need to avoid because of deceptive practices not the rest of us.  [Content hidden]

Are you aware that the Guardian is the UK version of our Enquirer in the US a complete rag newspaper outlet? No one on this thread is going to get your approval with a word we say, you are right and we are all wrong, yet you practice the same thing with your headlines. I'm, done...

****... no one did anything to my listing...

but why are you so angry at others. Who cares what anyone else is doing? be happy you have good reviews and make money. BTW- wasnt Iacocca a shrewd busniessman who made cars? He knew all about deception and price fixing and lowballing, highballing. [Content hidden]

@Maria-and-Jean0 I will say with your flat rate pricing you are leaving a LOT of money behind, possibly 15-20%, maybe more...and you choose to do this for some non existent moral standard that has no bearing on reality.  There is NO deception in having different pricing during different times of the year and if we don't know when they plan to stay it just makes sense to show them the best prices available.  And when they do choose the dates then they see the prices for those dates.  Nobody is lying or cheating or being deceptive in any way and the only person who doesn't seem to get that is you.

Ok well I am tired of hitting my head against the wall trying to explain to you how business works.  It's obviously lost on you.   good night and good luck

This is quite the read! Maybe Maria should chime in at somepoint here . . . .

Everyone here is entitled to have their own opinion without being shut down, some people get terribly upset when different outlooks arises. Say whatever your view is and its fine by me.

Price starting from xxx~ not sure why that would be considered deceptive if it is natural for prices to fluctuate depending on season and no. of guests. Imo if people were to put in accurate dates and no. of guests and "pay attention" it would be less of a problem.

One a different note......

When I think 'deceptive' in terms of price I personally always think about stores in the U.S. because the price tags are always "before tax" so at the counter you always have to pay more because tax is added.

In Korea the price on the label is what we pay. Tax is included..... and the recipt will show a breakdown of the tax amount (for each item and total).

As long as the breakdown is clearly shown in advance so people clearly know the total of what they need to pay while they are comparing prices (not at the check out counter and not while confirming your credit card details) I would not consider it a problem or "deceptive" in any way.

Good for you...

@Jessica-and-Henry0  Yes, it's like that in Mexico as well- the 16% sales tax is already included in the posted price and it will show that breakdown on the purchase receipt.

Hey, if the shoe fits! But I did try, over and over and over again to explain to you how this business works and how you are leaving money on the table and all you did was tell me how deceptive I am and what a cheating liar I am and you even went so far as to condemn my soul to hell.  All this because I have variable pricing and discount by 10 bucks a few mid-week nights.  You have lashed out at everybody who disagrees with you calling them followers and cheaters, [Content Hidden]
