Idea: Separate the damage claim period from the review period
Currently, hosts have 14 days to submit a damage claim, but this is the same 14-day period during which both host and guest can leave reviews. This creates a clear problem: if a host reports damage during that time, the guest can still leave a review and may retaliate with a negative one.
This situation discourages hosts from reporting legitimate damages out of fear of unfair reviews. I have personally experienced this.
A better system would be to separate these two periods, or allow damage claims to be submitted after the review window has closed. This would prevent retaliatory reviews and better protect hosts while maintaining fairness for everyone in the Airbnb community.
Yes, this is a very good and practical idea.
Currently, the 14-day period for submitting a damage claim and leaving reviews runs at the same time. This often puts hosts in a difficult position. If a host reports a legitimate damage during this period, there is always a risk that the guest may respond with a retaliatory negative review.
Because of this, some hosts hesitate to report damages even when they are genuine. I have personally experienced a similar situation, so I fully understand the concern.
Separating the damage claim period from the review period, or allowing hosts to submit claims after the review window has closed, would create a fairer and more balanced system for both hosts and guests.
I hope Airbnb considers a solution for this issue to better protect hosts while maintaining trust within the community.

Hosts have been asking Airbnb to do this for years to no avail sadly...
