New to Hosting – What’s One Thing You Wish You Knew Before Starting?

Hi everyone,

I’m brand new to the Airbnb community and thinking about becoming a host soon. I’ve been reading through some of the threads here and it’s been super insightful, but I’d love to hear directly from experienced hosts:

What’s one thing you wish you knew before hosting your first guest?

Whether it’s about preparing your space, guest communication, or just managing expectations, I’m eager to learn from your experience.

Thanks in advance for any advice you’re willing to share!

Thank you so much for reaching out to ask about getting started as a host and how to prepare for guests. What inspired you to consider hosting?

I’d love to share this wonderful guide created by our amazing member Joan, where she explains everything you need to know to begin your hosting journey: A Guide For New Hosts.

I’d also like to mention some experienced hosts to see what advice they can share to help you get started: @Marie8425@Shelley159@Till-and-Jutta0 and @Daniel14890

Thank you so much everyone in advance and I hope we can help!

Best,
Alex

Communication is always your strongest protection for yourself and Guest because you give clear expectations.

Cleanliness is also a must have for every rental especially your dealing with bathroom, bedroom and maybe kitchen not negotiable areas.

If you give a general idea of what type of rental, depending we can offer more ideas.  Shared or not shared?  Type of location?  Size of property?

Hi @Daniel14890

I would say it’s that, reviews are not visible in the listing or search results until you have three reviews - though they are visible to the host and guest in the messaging thread. Once three reviews are received, the average overall score is displayed, and detailed scores for different categories are also visible alongside the reviews.

Focusing on getting your first three is an important goal - and utilising airbnbs marketing (newsletter mentions) by saying yes to the 20% offer for your first stays.

I share my Airbnb marketing knowledge & tips on my saltwaterstories IG profile if interested.

Good luck with your set up!

Have some fun with your spaces, and pay attention to the details. I believe guests look to Airbnb for interesting, unique spaces that can’t be found in your average hotel.
