Hi all -
our City is about to take hosts to war with city bi-laws. Implementing fees, inspections and capping stays to 180 nights per year. We have a meeting on June 1st and I don’t know how to adequately prepare. I also created a private Facebook group to try band together but not sure what the best way is to find and invite local area hosts. Does anyone have any experience with this or words of wisdom?

Hi @Chantal713,
In addition to the group you created, have you checked if a local Host Club exists near you? You can find them all here - if there's one, it might be worth discussing this with them directly!
Thanks,
Emilie

Omgosh @Emilie i did not even know about host groups! I checked and we do not have one for our entire Northern region. Maybe I need to start one! Thank you so much!

Have a lovely weekend,

kindly keep me in the loop also, new airbnb
@you could join the Toronto group and voice your concern there. Some other people from the suburbs also have the same concerns as you
@Chantal713 Hey Chantal, I was at the meeting also. Have you formed a FB group? Im in the Parry Sound one on Facebook. Laura (of NormenandLaura)
I couldn't agree more. We successfully ran 2 Airbnb 4 bedroom homes for almost 5 years and never had a problem. They were used by contractors , film crew workers, sporting event organizers, military families and so on. Now we are selling the 2 properties because of the city sticking their noses in where they don't belong. It's funny because most of City council are clueless when it comes to short term rentals especially Airbnb, but again they are taking away another opportunity to host people from all over the World who just want a comfortable place to lay their head. I'm done trying to be a part of this city and Im not alone.
Thank you all for this thread! I came on here looking as we have similar problem in Kawartha Lakes. We’re new hosts and from day one our neighbour has created problems. Now they have city councillor who is running with Airbnb as a major issue. I would love to find out if there is a fb group for hosts is in the area and if not will form one. What they don’t realize is that for many of us it is our livelihood. We take extra care in letting h our guests know to be respectful of our neighbours. Our properties are not even that close yet they oppose it. Thanks for the conversation and great tips
Hi Chantal, how do we join your fb group?
What’s the name of the FB group… I just found out there is a bylaw!
regards,
Glen
Hi Glen… good luck… we have temporarily shut it all down as what they are demanding is awful. Waiting for them to figure out that what they want is unrealistic. Very awful process and experience. Group is called North Bay Short Term Rental Hosts.
Thanks! I reached on FB! It’s pending now
