Occupancy taxes

Occupancy taxes

Hello there,

I 'm new to Airbnb and I just noticed that when a guest makes a payment, Airbnd charges an "Occupancy fees". My question is, if we (hosts) do get a 1099 at the end of the calendar year. What are the occupancy fees for?

Your response is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Pam

Occupancy taxes are taxes applied to overnight lodging (hotels, short term rentals) and are typically used by governments to fund tourism and local services. They are not part of income you receive as a Host and are not reported as income by the Host.

Airbnb collects these taxes in some cases and remits to the governmental authority on behalf of hosts. They may not collect all required taxes, so hosts should find out what state and local taxes are required for their listings and ensure they are collected and paid.
