RFC # and Taxes

Hello from snowie Alberta, CANADA. So sad we can’t travel to our property in Playa del Carmen without consequences.  Recently I received notification that rental platforms such as AIRBNB require an RFC #.  We have owned this property for over 6 years and we’re not aware of the necessity of an RFC number.  We typically rent out the condo, and stay there ourselves twice a year for 2 to 4 weeks.  I was recently advised that if I don’t supply AIRBNB with an RFC # they will be submitting 20% of our earnings  for tax, where based on our earnings range such should be only 2 to 3%.  I also read/understand that to obtain an RFC # I would need to get a residency card, and when apply I may have to be in Mexico for a month to complete the process.  Also can anyone confirm which box to check on the form we retain then return when leaving Mexico, what docs to bring to apply for residency/RFC.  I would appreciate any help please. Thank you Lydia87
