Schofields Holiday Let Insurance Cover - refusal to pay losses unless over and above Government Business Grants Funding

This may be a bit niche for some of the hosts on here, but I am interested to know whether other (probably UK) hosts who are covered with Schofields Holiday home insurance (provided by AXIS) have had their claims for losses due to Covid19 refused, unless they go over and above the UK Small Business Grant?

With so many UK holiday home owners using Airbnb to advertise their properties I was hoping to contact other hosts in this position.....I'm wondering if we have a case to complain?

Apologies to anyone this does no apply to!

@Alexandra199 If this is the only reason they are giving then at least they have admitted that your insurance covers you for this pandemic.

My only suggestion is to ask them for a deadlock letter and then take them to the Ombudsman. Its free for you and will eventually get you a response when the test cases have progressed through the courts.

They could be right as ALL insurance requires the claimant to mitigate their losses which applying for a Government grant might count.

Hi @Mike-And-Jane0

thanks, yes I had already followed that process. I’m trying to find other owners who have had the same result so we can get together to challenge the decision if necessary.
