Seeking Advice on Change of Use Permit for Short-Term Accommodation in Rotherham, South Yorkshire

Hello fellow hosts,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to the Airbnb host community in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, with a question regarding operating short-term accommodation on Airbnb. I am currently offering my property on Airbnb for short-term stays and wanted to inquire about the requirements for obtaining a change of use permit or any necessary registrations with the local council.

Specifically, I am curious to know if any of you have gone through the process of applying for a change of use permit to operate short-term accommodation on platforms like Airbnb. Have you encountered any specific regulations or guidelines set by the local authorities in Rotherham?

It would be incredibly helpful to hear about your experiences and insights. If you have successfully navigated the process of obtaining a change of use permit or if you are aware of any registration requirements in Rotherham, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Your first-hand knowledge could provide valuable guidance.

Feel free to reply to this message or reach out to me directly. Your assistance would go a long way in helping me understand the steps involved and any potential challenges I might face.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you and learning from your experiences.

Best regards,

Mr George Maier

Hi @Gheorghe13 Welcome to our Community.

I recommend using the search bar at the top of the Community with some keywords to find previous discussions about this topic from other Hosts.

It could also be a good idea to ask this question to fellow local Hosts in the Rotherham Host Club for more targeted advice.

@Gheorghe13 I don't think you need change of use at present as long as you are not creating an HMO. You do need to worry about the link below however

Hi

Thank you for you insight , I was thinking the same but I have received a letter from the council stating that I need to apply for a full change of use for this property  So I'm very confused now

Thank You

@Gheorghe13 Well that is strange as the `government is still consulting as to how to regulate/licence short term rentals. That said London has gone its own way so I guess Sheffield must have as well. When I was at Uni there it was known as the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire and I guess nothing has changed.
