Short Term Licence Scheme

Hello Fellow Hosts 🙂

Does anyone know how many days you are permitted to let your home  short term per year if you were to obtain a home letting licence:

  • Home letting - using all or part of your own home for short-term lets, whilst you are absent. An example of this could be whilst you are on holiday

I can't see this printed anywhere in the guidance.

    Thanks in advance 🙂

Hi @Grant288 ,

Have you managed to sort this one out?

I am reaching out to our members from the UK if they have any advice for you : @Elaine917 @Mike-And-Jane0 if they can share some insights about STR permissions.

In the meantime I am sharing this article that briefs a bit about: Responsible hosting in the United Kingdom. Sharing the Edinburgh bit below :

City of Edinburgh Council has designated the whole of Edinburgh as a Short Term Let Control Area. This means Planning Permission is required to use second homes for short-term letting. Planning permission is not required to use a primary residence for short-term letting.

Decisions on Planning Permission are taken by the Council in line with its Development Plan available on the Edinburgh Council website. Contact your local authority if you have any questions.

@Bhumika I can't help as this is Edinburgh specific and their regulations/laws are being challenged in court. Or at least they are in Glasgow where some elements were found illegal.

Thank you @Mike-And-Jane0 for letting us know!

@Grant288 You can also explore our Local Host Clubs to ask about this. I was able to find one for Edinburgh here : https://www.facebook.com/groups/686731909410881 .

I hope it helps!
