Has anybody here successfully made their unit permitted under local law for short term rentals in the longisland area? I see the bill is getting closer and closer to pass in New York, would like to prepare myself .
As it's been a little while since you asked, I wanted to check in and see if there'd been any progress on your side regarding this permit ?
If not, it might be worth reaching out to other hosts near you via our Host Clubs; you can find the link to your local one here: Local Host Clubs
Perhaps some of our other hosts on Long Island might be able to weigh in too: @Jason2566 @Jatinder8 @Candysue0 @Noelle4 @Patricia2861 @Flo3292 @Karen3888 - do you have any experience with this you could share?
Thank you everyone 🙂

Where we live the county began by sending a threatening letter saying I have broken a county ordinance and may be fined. First I'd heard of it of course. Then was told to register and fill out proper form each quarter and send what was owed. Then said forget all that go online and use the county's new "platform" to accomplish it. The platform was ill designed. The county said to call a number with questions. No one answered those calls. Finally someone did pick up the phone and apologized saying yes, the system was all f--ked up. Then the county sent another letter saying for our convenience to go back to submitting the written form. Then it followed up with another email saying to use the new and improved online platform which was not at all intuitive. Again no one answered calls for help. I sent a written letter saying that since there was no way I could make their dopey platform work and that I was, through no fault of mine likely to have to endure another threatening letter and possible fine, I had no choice but to submit the record and $ using the old form. I cc'd my attorney. That finally resulted in detailed instructions including a critical step that had been omitted in the instructions for the new and improved online platform which does work just fine. The airbnb machinery automatically adds the county's take onto what the renter pays of course so that's good.

I've never had a problem short-term renting on Long Island. Hopefully, that bill will be dead on arrival.
Thank you @Gloria89 for letting us know about your own experience as well!
@Nick-and-Alexis0 I hope the perspectives from other hosts in Long Island have been useful, and it would be great if you could let us know how you get on as well going forward. 🙂
Have a lovely day,
Emilie
