Im buying a house in Scotland and taking over the airbnb. Im buying all my own laundry to save on costs on using a local linen contractor (for now anyway). But not sure how much to buy. The property is 4 bedrooms. In terms of bedding, Im currently thinking of 3 of everything, 1 for the property, 1 in the cupboard as spares and 1 being washed. Im also allowing for this with towels, (on the basis of 1x bath towel, 1x hand towel and 1x wash cloth per guest). Does this sound about right? And does anyone have any recommendations for wholesale linen companies in the UK?
Love the tip on the master bedroom! I have gone with slightly higher quality for the double rooms, just because they were different from the singles, and therefore easier to sort when doing the washing! Great tip on towels too, I think Ill get through a few of these so have over ordered just in case! Thanks Ann.
I used to buy nicer, more expensive sheets, but an experience with a guest shut that down. She came down for Carnival, and attended a fete where they throw powered dye on each other (similar to Diwali). It appears that she didn't shower very well before going to bed, because the sheets were permanently stained from the dye. Of course, she didn't mention the staining during her stay.
@Debra300 Sigh - what can I say, I'm a sheet freak? I stand in front of a display of wonderful sheets and text my daughters to ask them to stop me before I buy again. 🤣
@Ann72 I have a friend like that. Her linen closet looks like a store display (she can fold a fitted sheet so it looks like it just came out of the package) and is stuffed with stacks of high quality sheets. She does wait to buy them on sale, but she lives alone and only has the occasional house guest.
I have eight beds in one of my places. Due to space limitations, I have just two sets of sheets for each bed, two sets of towels for each guest, a dozen kitchen towels for each kitchen, and a multi-pack of microfiber towels for guest use (wiping up spills and water drippings at sinks). I buy microfiber sheet sets and hospitality towel sets from Costco, because they are soft and inexpensive. All of which are perfect for machine washing and quick line drying in St. Lucia.
Thats the thing Debra, where to store it all! Thanks for the advice.
@Sarah3478 TKmax online have king size sheets 400TC for £20 at present. Haven't seen cheaper anywhere else. Not sure about the quality as they are not here yet!
Im hearing TKMAx come up a lot as good for these types of things. I'll certainly look there when Im over. They have a nice homeware range too. Thanks Mike and Jane!
I have 3 sets and the quality varies but, all purchased at the box discount stores. One set (used as a spare) is cotton/poly which I don't usually like but honestly it feels just as nice as the 100% cotton and definitely dries quickly on the line. I think I'd prefer to buy cheaper but replace more often.
Yes, I agree. Guests can ruin expensive sheets just as easily as cheaper ones I guess! Thanks Michelle!
This is a great idea, last year I purchased mattress and towel from Reecoupons. It was a worth buying for me. The mattress and towels are still in a good condition. I am not sure about they do ship in UK or not but you can check it once!
Thats the beauty of online shopping, so easy to shop around! Thanks for the advice.
I think 3 or 4 sets per bed is fine. I'm also a big fan of duvet covers in lieu of bulky comforters that take long to dry. I get two for each bed, so there is one clean when the other is being laundered. They are also a nice way to spruce up a room as the seasons change.
@Sarah3478I use a hotel supplier for linen. Prices are excellent, and you get good quality linen that's specifically designed to last and be good quality. Three sets per bed is a good start.
