Superhog

Hi, I’m a host and an enquiry has just come through from someone who says they would like to book my place but because they have previously been ‘stung’ on another booking, would I verify myself with Superhog.  Has anyone ever heard of this? Is it genuine or some type of a scam? Please advise.

Mika, I just found out that Superhog has a £1M guarantee.  Wow!

@Ute42... yes I saw that too .. and you are eligible for a deposit of £500 .. but only if you are a Pro member .. and I didn't found anywhere the fees for a Pro in their Terms of Use.

But I found this:

You also will not use SUPERHOG for any purpose prohibited by UKlaw, including the development, design, manufacture, or production of missiles, or nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons.

So .. this is anyway nothing of interest for me 😉

What? They don't want me to manufacture nuclear weapons when booking a place?

I've always done that and noone has ever complained about it!!

How can you manage your accommodation on Mars without missiles anyway ?

Besides the production of biological weapons not allowed for hosts:

Their service costs a host 8 GBP a month for 1 property.

It is under menu "pricing".

@ Ute42 .. never anyone with me either when I was working with my biological stuff ... if only the table in the small apartment hadn't been so weak last year in Hubei Province.

@Emiel1... and in their Terms of Use they write:

The full annual Membership Feefor SUPERHOG is £120.00 for members and £120 for each listing (both including VAT).

... but no word about the 'Pro'-member.

Then I guess the Pro-members are not charged, as they probably own already all the weapons mentioned.

I know that everyone has to start somewhere, but Superhog doesn't provide enough information about themselves to prove they are trustworthy to have such personal details.  In fact, what they are asking for would be a gold-mine for identity theft.

There is nothing to confirm and certify the level of system security they utilize.  Has external pen-testing been conducted, and which governing regulations are they following and which agencies conducts audits on them.  Nor, are the C-level team members providing any certification regarding their backgrounds in regards to criminal activity, credit indebtedness and payments, or their qualifications for handling such sensitive data.

Lastly, which insurance company is providing the policy for the booking guarantee?  What's their rating, and where are the headquarters?

Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center

Did they ever provide any additional information once you presented them with these questions?

Its now July 2023.  I'm about to jump on the superhog bandwagon BUT....I agree there are not enough details.  Three times I've asked for a sample email of what the customer will see, and still no results.  Also, I am getting the 'don't want a guest to photograph themselves' level of protection and $5 million insurance, but I'm hesitant about the guest view.  I can't find a review of Superhog's success in getting payments to owners.  Their own website says they have a 40% success rate in simply getting the guest to pay, by Superhogs leadership in mediation between the parties themselves, and therefore no need to pay via their own insurance.  I wonder what that looks like to the guest?  or the Owner....do we do a deep dive into guest intimidation?  Am I on the hook for harassing the guest?....its all a bit less open than I wish, there is no good online review of their effectiveness, and I still don't see an answer to the questions you posed in the post above.

I rented a property last year in the UK and provided my sensitive personal details to Superhog. However, it was never mentioned anywhere during the booking process that I will be contacted by Superhog after paying for the booking. Now after a year, I am receiving weekly spam emails that I owe Superhog £ 240 for damaging a property. There is no info in the email about the property address or the dates of my stay. So I believe it is a spam. However, one wonders how come spammers got hold of my personal details!!!!!
