The Potential Permanent Elimination of Airbnb in New York City

On September 5th 2023, the New York City Democrat Politicians Plan to Close Down Permanently

Airbnb for Short Term Renting. Hundreds of Small Homeowners Might Face Bank Foreclosures.

Has Anyone Heard Any Updates About This ??

Hi @Carlos300 ,

Thank you for sharing about this initiative with our members. I wanted to let you know that I have merged all your posts to this one in order to keep all the ongoing discussions in one place for our members.

As Community Center is more of a global forum, it might be a bit difficult to specifically get in touch with NYC Hosts. If you may like, you can also get in touch with New York Hosts through our NYC Local Host Club here : https://www.facebook.com/groups/830896930840373.

@Helen3  Not to be a stickler, but your listing says 'lock on bedroom door'.

Sorry thought you meant on my bedroom door @Mark116

when you referred to locks on your bedroom and bathroom.

They can lock their bedroom door from the inside only.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. In Los Angeles, they have made it so difficult to host and so expensive. The yearly registration fees are almost $200 and that’s only for 120 nights. If you want more nights then you have to jump through a ridiculous process and then pay another $1,130- yearly. The city also takes so much money in fees on top of that, that guests expect more for their money. Costing you more. Fight it as much as you can.

@Lisa107

do we have similar Rally in LA? it’s insane in our cities how they ban airbnb

We had many rallies and people spoke to the city council and the planning department. I went to a few. The city council was unmoved by anything anyone had to say. The hotel employees showed up in full force and of course they won. A few friends of mine were forced to sell their home and move out of the area as they could no longer afford their mortgage.

I Already have Been in Contact with My Area's Airbnb Hosts,

in Manhattan, at the Mayor's Office at City Hall.

You do Not Live in New York City, therefore You can Not Appreciate the Difficulty of the Many Rules To Register to Save My Airbnb.

It is Extremely Important that All Hosts and Their Friends Attend the Protest Rally

Has Any New York City Hosts have Any Updates about the Politicians Shutting Down Most NYC Hosts, Starting on September 5th ?

@Carlos300

This is not the right forum for opening this up again. You’ve made it clear in multiple posts that you already know all the details and updates. It’s disingenuous for you to try to stir the pot some more by asking a seemingly innocent question, causing other hosts (like me) to try to do research for you.

I do support your cause, but please create another forum or group somewhere online encouraging other hosts from NYC to try to fight this issue. You can create a group on Meetup.com, for instance.

I disagree. This is absolutely the right forum to discuss this.

I wish we have this discussion across the country.
