airbnb New York City short term rental

Hello Hosts,   I have a question for all short term rental hosts in New York city who has agreed consent to data sharing and are hosting guests short term ( under 30 days) Is it safe to do short term rentals in New York city?  I have been reading about the city cracking down on Short term rental apartments.  Some of my favorite apartments in manhattan has disappeared.  I use to do short term rentals but since Airbnb and city reached a deal with the city where Airbnb will pass all the host info to the city on a quarterly basis,  I have changed my short term rental to long term rental but this has def effected my airbnb bookings.  Lets discuss.
