thinking about becoming a host

I am interested in hosting and a potentially a newbie.  I have a property in Stockport, Greater Manchester so I thought I would start gathering some information for seasoned hosts in my area.  I have a 3 bedroom house, totally refurbished can someone give me some advice as to what the laws are on short term lets please.  Any information greatly appreciated.
